Production of mangoes in Peru will reach approximately 180,000 tonnes from  2011 to 2012, according to the president of the Association of Mango Producers and Exporters (EMPA), Mario Salazar.

He said that in the last two seasons domestic production fluctuated between 200 thousand and 250 thousand tons, which meant an overage in production for the year.  He said that when there is overproduction prices automatically fall due to an excess  of supply.  This affects the whole chain that runs from the exporter to the farmer.
